Summary: Missouri Appleseed uses research advocacy, and education to promote legislation and policies that directly improve the lives of Missouri's children and families. In a political environment that is often divided, we foster bipartisan support for common sense public health and criminal justice legislation. Join Missouri Appleseed to learn about our 2024 legislative priorities, including banning the shackling of pregnant women in Missouri jails, eliminating the luxury sales tax on diapers and feminine products, and ensuring incarcerated pregnant women are served enough healthy food to support healthy pregnancies. Additionally, we will discuss an exciting project taking place at the St. Louis County jail, where Medicaid enrollment is reducing barriers to healthcare and increasing reentry success.

BIO: Mary Quandt is the Director of Public Health Policy at Missouri Appleseed. Originally from rural Wisconsin, she has called Missouri home for almost a decade. Mary received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Public Health from Washington University in St. Louis, and a law degree from St. Louis University School of Law. Before Missouri Appleseed, Mary served in the Peace Corps as a health educator and worked with various public health nonprofits.
